On the first Monday of each month we roll out our Monthly MLB Report Card (forever to be known as MMLBRC) for the Mets, Phillies and Yankees. We’ll still check in from time to time with short posts to quickly take the pulse of each team, but think of the MMLBRC as an in depth physical (anal probing not included). Truthfully, a month is probably too small of a sample size to make overarching claims like we will attempt to, but dammit, you want content! So rather than write well-reasoned quarterly updates, we’ll make rash decisions based on far too little data. Last up: the fading Bombers.

Let’s make a deal
Two down, one to go.
With both New York teams and the Phillies in contention, we knew it would be a busy trade deadline for the three teams we cover here at TGE. The Phils swung their deal, and now the Yanks have followed suit, swapping a package of prospects for Xavier Nady and Dámaso Marte.
So what’s our take on the deal?

Play ball!
After an excruciatingly long dose of spring training games and debating rosters, we finally get some meaningful on-field action tonight. With the season opening stateside tonight and tomorrow, we thought we’d go on record with our picks for the 2008 season.
Checking in on the Phils and New York’s better team
Sorry, Mets fans, but I had to get that shot in. Anyway, the Phils and Yanks clashed twice this weekend, with George Steinbrenner’s crew winning 9-3 on Saturday and the game ending in a 7-7 tie on Sunday (click here for Sunday’s highlights, including an incredible catch by Greg Golson).
We haven’t yet checked in on the Yankees in spring training, but their issues are similar to those of their weekend opponent: pitching, pitching, and pitching.

Oh, Andy!
The New York Daily News chronicles how Pettitte received HGH from his father, of all people.
My question is, was this the HGH Pettitte already admitted to being injected with by Brian McNamee? Or is this another set of syringes he received?
The next question is, how does this effect Roger Clemens? It obviously doesn’t help him, especially since his son has been to that gym. At the same time, I hesitate to jump to the conclusion that just because Koby Clemens worked out there that he provided HGH to the Rocket.
Naive of me? Yes, probably. But, as with everything else in this case against Clemens, there isn’t any physical proof yet, despite the millions of warning flags and flashing arrows pointing to him using performance enhancing drugs.

New York: The city that’s kicking your ass. You got a problem with that?
Yeah, we’re New York. And we’re a bit arrogant. What’s it to you? Truth is, you’ve got to be to make it in this city, especially as a sports fan. Take a look at the New York description for this site to get a little more insight on being a fan in the Big Apple.
If you want to cut through all the Philly garbage that’s sure to be posted on here and get to NY posts only, hit this link to separate the wheat from the chaffe. Oh, and for the Mets fans out there, enjoy!
