Let’s play a little game called “Guess what I’ve been up to the last two weeks.” Here’s a couple of choices for you…
- Absolutely nothing
- Contemplating complex philosophical questions like the meaning of life
- Curling into the fetal position and crying myself to sleep every night because of law school exams
- Curling into the fetal position and crying myself to sleep every night because Philadelphia was celebrating 100 seasons of ineptitude
I guess #3 and #4 encapsulate it best. And then today, as I continued to cry and babble incoherently about Shawn Bradley, Joe Carter and Ronde Barber, I realized, “Hey, Kev, you’ve got a blog. You’ve got something to live for. Get up and write something.”
Look, I don’t claim to be an expert on hockey. I’ve put up a couple of Flyers posts here, but once they starting sinking like the Titanic in mid-February, I figured injuries had done them in and that it was time to focus our attention on the future for a team with a pretty young core. But let’s just say that their first round series with the Washington Capitals officially sucked me back in.
I’ll gladly admit that it was one of my favorite movies during childhood. Three pets in the wilderness, surviving against all odds… and then there’s even a happy ending! I wonder if I still have the VHS lying around somewhere.
Oh, and in other news, the Flyers made a move earlier this week, picking up former Flyer Václav “You can call me Vinny” Prospal.
What Flyers fans feared for much of the season was confirmed Wednesday night: Simon Gagne will miss the rest of this season after suffering several concussions earlier this year. It’s a huge blow for the Orange and Black, especially considering their recent seven-game slide (though the final loss to Ottawa on Tuesday night at least came in overtime) and the spate of injuries that has plagued them over recent weeks.
Consider this an aggregator post of sorts for the Philly sports portion of this blog. If you haven’t already, check out the Philadelphia overview so you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into when you read this site.
For a list of all posts Philly-related, click here. Alternatively, you can use the “Sort by City/Team” box on the right-hand side to… yup, you guessed it… sort the entries by city or team.
Oh, and here’s a Philly sports background for your computer. It’s good if you like to, well, be miserable about Philly sports.
